Research Open Data

Data-driven decisions for better services. Access anonymized insights about Dutch communities abroad without compromising individual privacy.

Why This Matters

Government institutions need data to allocate resources effectively, plan consular services, and prepare for emergencies. But collecting this data traditionally requires complex surveys or census operations. Our Research Open Data environment provides continuous, anonymized insights that update as the community evolves, giving you an always-current picture.

How It Works

When users set up their Buitenland Loket profile, they provide basic, voluntary information such as their country, reason for being abroad, and whether they are an individual or business. This data is aggregated and anonymized, then made available through the Research Open Data environment. No individual users can be identified from this data.

What You Can Learn

The data reveals patterns about the Dutch diaspora that are difficult to obtain through other channels. You can see which countries have growing Dutch communities, what the primary reasons for relocation are, how the community composition shifts over time, and which types of information are most frequently accessed, helping you prioritize your services accordingly.

Real-World Examples

See how this feature works in practice.

Resource Planning
An embassy notices a 40% increase in users in their country over the past year, primarily driven by remote workers. This insight helps them prepare for increased demand for consular services and adjust staffing accordingly.
Crisis Response Preparation
By understanding the geographic distribution of users across regions, emergency response teams can pre-position resources and create more effective evacuation plans.
Policy Impact Assessment
After introducing new tax treaties, the ministry can observe whether the distribution of users across countries shifts, providing indirect evidence of the policy's impact on migration decisions.
